Okay, No Podcast Yet

Life gets complicated – joys of living in the 21st Century. Still going to do the postmodern language podcast – hopefully tomorrow.

Where’s He Been?

Between a retreat, a root canal, and a leadership meeting, I just plain haven’t had the time to get a new podcast in. However, tomorrow is a day off, so look for something then. I have enjoyed the feedback and I think I will talk a bit about language and culture – namely how the Protestant mainline and a fair amount of American culture in general doesn’t recognize the changes brought on by postmodern generations and has reacted by refusing to speak the language of the emerging culture. So while religious subcultures preserve there 20th century traditions and dialects and call it faithfulness, the very “lost souls” they claim to want to save ignore them because all they hear is gibberish and elitism.

Does anyone use a podcast aggregator that runs on Windows 98? I have a friend who wants to subscribe to Wired Jesus but Ipodder 2.o doesn’t work with Win98 nor does Doppler. Any of you folks have any suggestions?

On this podcast I review my first Hit Test and talk a bit about the power of music in the postmodern spiritual journey. Like I say in the podcast, much of what is peddled as Christian pop/rock is targeted at a fearful subculture that is afraid to engage the larger world with its penetrating questions of faith and life. I have used songs and videos in worship and classes to make the point that there are people “out there” who are asking questions that we as Christians say we have answers to but ignore because those questions aren’t phrased in “proper English” or are considered disrespectful to the true faith. Frankly, the Christians that aren’t ready to meet Green Day on their portraral of Jesus of Suburbia on American Idiot aren’t going to connect with the coveted “young people” they long to see fill their churches again. Postmoderns don’t care about modern questions or issues – they have their own and they are going to sing about it and act it out in videos rather than in modern churches only interested in making more modern clones of themselves. Some churches get this, but its a risk for many Christians to go back out into the world to make disciples. I’ll say more about this in a future podcast.

Okay, mea culpa – new discovery about podcasting, servers, and WordPress: it will only generate enclosures for mp3 files that have no spaces in the title. I created files with spaces “hit test 1” and nothing would happen. “hittest1” created an automatic enclosure.

Mystery solved. I have grown in geekness due to my error and will be a better podcaster for it.

ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

I don’t know what happened but something has hosed WordPress and it has stopped generating enclosures since last week, so unless you manually downloaded the hit test, you never got it. I have liked WordPress but this is the second time this has happened. So much for automatic enclosure generation..

Just for yucks, lets try the Hit Test enclosure again.

If someone of you who check out the blog could leave a comment about the last time your RSS feed worked, I would appreciate it.

Again, the RSS error that I had a few weeks back is haunting me again. Let me know if your RSS picks this hit test up.

I’m having an RSS glitch with my last two podcasts, so here is another try to get it running again.

Just asking for your thoughts and prayers upon finding out that my brother-in-law has just been diagnosed with colon cancer.

Here it is – the Wired Jesus Hit Test #1. Take a listen and see if you can name the songs. The only hints are they are from the 80s and 90s, they were all pop hits, and I actually used the song or the video in an actual sermon. Watch for my podcast later today to find out how I actually used them.

If you like hit tests, you have to check out the godfather of all hit test podcasts, Jan Polet. Keep Jan in your thoughts and prayers right now as he undergoes some medical rehab for the next few weeks and check out his web page.

Thought I had cracked a tooth and went to see the dentist this morning. Turned out I needed an immediate root canal. bummer part was that I was supposed to play donkey basketball tonight with the local pastors as a fund raiser for our high school’s after prom. somehow everyone involved felt that the mixture of me, donkeys, and vicoden was not going to be good.

In case you haven’t heard of donkey basketball, this is what it looks like. I figured since both David and Jesus rode donkeys, I would be in good company. This isn’t me or from our area at all but it gives you an idea of the insanity. I think we should make the Burger King guy do this.

donkey b ball

however, todays podcast on the hit test is on hold until the novacaine wears off. Look for it tomorrow.
