My PC Is On Fire

I recently checked to see if my current dell laptop was on the battery recall list and was relieved that it wasn’t. Not that I don’t want to throw its underpowered, video challenged shell against the wall. My next upgrade at church can’t come soon enough.

When my brother sent me this youtube link, I did feel better.

Living next door to Wheaton, IL, the “official” town with the most churches per capita in the US, this little story caught me by surprise.

“They are not the words one expects to hear from a politician or a Southerner, and Leonard Scarcella is both: “Our city has an excessive number of churches.”

Scarcella is mayor of this Houston-area community, which has 51 churches and other religious institutions packed into its 7 square miles. With some 300 undeveloped, potentially revenue-producing acres left in Stafford, officials are scrambling to find a legal way to keep more tax-exempt churches from building here.”

Can’t say I know what to do with this, other than it fascinates me. On one hand, predictions are that up to 50% of Christian churches will close in the next 20 years and then you have this. I’m not it says much for our effectiveness as missionaries as it does as building contractors.

Iscorch

iscorch

When I was down in San Antonio for our tribe’s national youth gathering, there were several times, like during the Newsboys concert, where everyone got out their cell phones there in the dark. Very cool with 25,000 teens in the Alamodome.

Too bad we didn’t all have iscorch.

Too bad I don’t have a video ipod.

You can find the free download for iscorch here. Let me know how it works.

Its been a long time coming, almost two months but here’s a new Wired Jesus. It goes into where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to since this move as well as some personal insights into over-commitment. Sometimes we (meaning I 🙂 ) forget that rest is an important part of life and staying healthy. Here’s to making the time again for Wired Jesus!

Oh, yes, the clips – excerpts from Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues and from the opening speech from the movie Patton. I know, you’ll have to listen to figure out how they could possible go together.

Laziness

moving

You know, this moving business is for the birds and you think I would have it down by now. But such are the demands and realities.

I plan on getting a couple of posts up to let everyone know what I have been up to and get a podcast together too.

thanks for still checking.

Here we go, reflections on the theological/geographical reality of living betwixt (I’ve always wanted to use that word) The Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College and the megachurch Willow Creek. Live from the banks of the Mississippi where I am away at camp, Wired Jesus is back.

Comic Book Christs?

seraph

Found this entry on the Get Religion blog while surfing and found it quite interesting. As a long time marvel comics fan and collector (Thor; Dr. Strange; old Jack Kirby classics like The Eternals), one appeal to me has always been the mythic element, the creation of icons who embody our greatest hopes and worst fears. Good discussion. I was just disappointed that at Adherents.com there really weren’t any Lutheran superheros… Saint/Sinner Man? Lutefisk Lady? Catechism Boy?

Jesus hero

Its just crazy when people don’t understand the power of myth and literally turn Jesus in a comic book character. some folks just don’t get anything past third grade literalism and their own paranoia.

We’re In C-Town!

Well, our week at Disney is done and as of yesterday, all our worldly possessions were unloaded off an Allied Van Line truck into our digs. Boxes are everywhere, the boys are grumpy because of the friends they have had to leave behind, and its time to start carving out a normal rhythm of life again in a new place.

Watch for a podcast this week.

In trying to get a podcast out in the middle of the move and with all the new visitors coming via The Lutheran, there’s just not enough time to get it all done. So here is a “best of” episode from September 25, 2005 – The Burning Man Project.

Burning Man 2005

The Burning Man Community may be one of the best examples of what postmodern community looks like and the ways in which the spiritual journey is being lived out in the broadest sense. My voice is a little rough from a cold I had at the time but hope you enjoy the podcast as much as others have.

If you have found this podcast through reading The Lutheran magazine – welcome to Wired Jesus and the wonderful world of podcasting. Have fun looking around here and checking out some of the my previous podcasts. I started Wired Jesus over a year ago and have about 1000 subscribers from all kinds of backrounds and from around the world. Some Christians, some not, some postmoderns, some not. However, Wired Jesus is a space to explore issues in the wired world that touch on the spiritual journey of postmoderns. What I do is not a sermon but reflections that hopefully lead into a dialogue, a virtual community where no issue of life and faith is off limits.

I have a special podcast greeting for you that you can download by clicking here. Your computer should do the rest and you can listen to it once the download is complete.

I’ve also included links to a “best of” list if you will, of podcasts that have been particular favorites of listeners over the past year. Enjoy listening, post comments, and welcome to walking with Wired Jesus.
