I want to say a special word of thanks to all the people who, sight unseen, helped me get Wired Jesus launched. The beauty of the podcasting/blogging community is the fact that it often acts like the church does at its best: ready to help, not concerned about your baggage or beliefs, just there to welcome and help you into this brave new world. That being said, thanks to all these folks below for walking me through all the intricacies of WordPress 1.5, enclosures, and the re-education of an elder geek who cut his teeth on BASIC – not Visual Basic, BASIC on a Radio Shack TRS-80! Check out their blogs and podcasts – and if you are enjoying Wired Jesus – thank them for their help.

Jon Abad jonabad.com This guy knows WP inside and out and has a great blog.

Mark VandeWettering brainwagon.org Another WP guru but also great tech podcaster. Check out his video on using Audacity to podcast.

Craig Patchett Behind the Scenes A great podcast on how to do podcasts and author of the great podcast anthem/call sign: “Transmitters? We don’t need no stickin’ transmitters!”

Finally, got everything linked together and for a first attempt and intro, I’m rather pleased. This php code is like relearning all the old DOS formating codes for my word processors back in the late 80s.

Either way, here is the first Wired Jesus podcast. If you have signed up for the RSS feed, click over to the right for that. If you just want to check out the podcast, click on the link below to download it. Please be sure to post your comments and let me know what you think.

Alright, production hit a couple of glitches this morning and now at 12:15, I’m just about ready to upload. So, check back after 1PM and the podcast should be up.

The Final Countdown

Had to run into Toledo for a hospital visit, so got to catch up and listen to some Daily Source Code and a little Area 51. I was pleasantly surprised to find my new Sennheiser PC130 headset and mic ready and waiting for me when I got home. Not only do they work well with my audacity tests but they rock with Unreal 2004. Now if I can just pry Halflife 2 out of my son’s hands…

Caught a little about the Benny Hinn expose on Dateline. No wonder people are writing off the church. That’s the public face of Jesus? Somehow the whole business of “take up your cross and follow me” means your cross includes private jets, mansions, and designer suits. Missed that in the Bible. Guess I need to talk to the church treasurer about a pay raise and a stylin ride.

No wonder so many of us under 40 think church is either irrelevant and out of date like the many abandoned churches downtown or full of hypocritical crap like Benny and his combover. Too bad, local congregations are usually somewhere inbetween and much more real but no one is coming to check it out for themselves and no one is leaving the building to live like Jesus. Another challenge for us pastor types.

Couple more tests with some mixing yet to do tonight. The final countdown. Podcast posting Friday.

First Podcast Set

I know there have already been some hits here and I have even had couple emails about when the podcast will start. Turns out if you google “jesus” and “podcast”, I’m the number one hit, so I have incentive to get my act together. Everything seems to be a go, so go on over to Ipodder (if you don’t have it and are new to podcasting), hit the RSS button below and expect the first podcast. Still want to do some modifying on the web page – so if you have any suggestions, let me know.

To give you an idea of what to expect, I’ll probably start with an explanation of my music intro – why Green Day rocks, the significance of the clips, and how it paints of picture of my wandering through the spiritual landscape of the internet.

After that? Well, I may talk about Dave Slusher’s brutally honest and well done podcast on Evil Genius Chronicles on why he doesn’t believe in God. I would love, with his permission, to play some of the clips. I’m also thinking about reflecting on John O’ Keefe’s great article at ginkworld, Ten Reasons Your Church Sucks.

Or, I may do something completely different. After all, this is a podcast, not Clear Channel!

Finally, after much work, I think I have the rss up and running. If you click on the link from the previous entry, you will be able to download my header clip for the Wired Jesus Podcast. I’m rather pleased with it and think it captures the feel of the podcast. Still looking for another theme thats a little more wired, but the abandoned rail line works for wandering.

Here’s the header clip again, so I can test the RSS. If the subscription starts working, watch for a podcast in a couple of days!

Sound Test

This is a test of the the RSS enclosure function of WordPress. If everything works out, you should see an rss link for download my music intro.

Coming Soon

Welcome to the home of the Wired Jesus Podcast. In the next few weeks, you will see a few dry runs at what will be a regular podcast exploring the spiritual journey as it is lived out in the wired world – on the net, in film, in song, where ever questions of faith, life and meaning are being asked. While there are others in the podcasting world who are doing bible studies, sermons, and inspiritational shows, my focus is going to be searching for places where people can discuss openly their beliefs and find where really creative discussions of spirituality are going on.

All you have to do is look around- in forums, blogs, and podcasts, people are talking about God, Jesus, world religions – a searching for spiritual discussions and starting points but not having much use for the modern/boomer ways of doing it. Rather than churches and organized religion, most of us – most of you if you have found this page – go to the net, a certain googling for God approach. And so we explore on the net all kinds of religious traditions, ask every kind of question that we are told is unacceptable or blasphemous in church, because here we find an open community for the spiritual journey, with no one caring where you are at or what you say, only caring that you are here.

At least that is my approach with Wired Jesus. So don’t expect to find church here. Don’t even expect answers. Like Jesus, I just plan to wander the wired world, meet people where they are, listen to what they say, and then share in the stories of the spiritual life. I’m a pastor, part of the Lutheran tribe for those of you who know the Christian denominational lingo, so I am a Christian but, if you will come along for awhile, you’ll I’m just a little weird in my walk, hopefully in a way you will find helpful and different.

So, more details to come: a more detailed into on me, some upcoming show topics to give you a better idea of where I’m headed, and the opportunity for you to participate to make Wired Jesus a unique place and community.

Watch for the launch of the Wired Jesus Podcast at the end of February and check in back here to let me know what you think.
